Software Development Engineer

Description:
Responsible for the design and/or development of software for platforms, peripherals, applications or tools. Responsible for the delivery of products within budget, schedule, and quality guidelines. The Software Engineer role includes engineering solutions for the development and support of applications, databases, diagnostics, firmware, drivers, BIOS, utilities, OS images, and scripts.
- Participates in the preparation, review, and analysis of software requirements and specifications.
- Participates in the creation of design, functional, technical, and/or user documentation, as needed.
- Develop, test, and integrate code for new or existing software.
- Provide sustaining or maintenance support to existing software.
- Maintain source code revision control.
- Clearly communicate project issues and status.
- Provide constructive and responsive customer service to business partners.
- Understand and communicate industry trends and drive the corporate strategic direction for software and systems, as appropriate.
- Provide strategic direction to the planning, design, and architecture of high-quality, complex systems and software.
- Lead the review and analysis of test strategies for software products and systems.
- Review and analyze design, functional, technical, and user documentation.
- Implement software lifecycle and quality assurance systems for departments, projects, and products.
- Present accurate project status to executive management.
- Write technical papers (e.g., white papers) that clearly articulate industry and company trends in technology and solutions at either a summary or detailed level.
- Lead the definition, collection, analysis of quality metrics appropriate to products and processes, especially with respect to issue contributing to product defects and business process problems.
- Implement cross-functional, process design improvements and re-engineering efforts to reduce and prevent recurrent and anticipated defects and problems.
- Lead cross-functional re-engineering efforts that result in significant cost and cycle time savings.
- Lead the cross-functional implementation, integration, and deployment of projects and products of significant size and complexity.
- Provide outstanding leadership in relationships with external suppliers.
- Provide technical expertise to sales, marketing, engineering, finance, and manufacturing organizations.

Qualifications:
- Detail-oriented with attention to product quality.
- Versed in use of the appropriate editor, compiler, assembler, debugger, etc. for whatever programming language is expected to be used (assembly, C, C++, Java, etc.)
- Versed in the concept, use of, and selection of revision control software.
- Advanced analytical, problem solving, debugging and fundamental logical skills
- Understanding of software engineering processes and methodologies.
- Capable of designing the core architecture which other programmers will design around.
- Able to lecture internal and external groups about a particular technology or design

The software engineer will work in a project team to deliver the next generation of x86 mobile platforms.
As part of the technical management function, you will be responsible in working with select ODM vendors to manage the product specification, development schedule, meet various deliverables, resolve technical issues, and ensure product meets specification and quality goal.
Minimum of 5 years of related industry experience, preferable in x86 notebook and/or tablet design. Microsoft® XP and Windows® 7 development experience is important.
